Horizontal Integration
an integrated curriculum for greater understanding
The curriculum at St. George employs a combination of vertical and horizontal integration techniques. In vertical integration, each year’s curriculum builds upon information presented in the previous years. This is a method of organization common to most academic programs. Additionally, to provide further synergy among the subjects students may be learning at any given time, St. George's curriculum is horizontally integrated, as well. This means different subjects within a grade level are coordinated to present different aspects of a topic simultaneously. It provides students with a greater depth of understanding about specific subjects than they would have otherwise.
